2022

The Club AGM took place on Thursday night the 15th December in Butlerstown Community Centre. The Chairperson, Eoin McCarthy, welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance.

The minutes of the 2021 AGM were taken as read and this was followed by the Secretary’s report for 2022. Richard Murphy, our Secretary, was complimented by the Chairperson on presenting such a detailed report. The Secretary report comprehensively reviewed all playing action for the 2022 season and much discussion revolved around the 2022 Junior football championship. Despite a superb victory against the 2021 champions in our final group game, the loss to Argideen Rangers coupled with the Championship rules debacle, full DRA report can be found here, saw us exit the football campaign at the group stages. In 2022 the Lower Intermediate Hurling Championship was renamed the Premier Junior Hurling Championship and this season saw us again fail to progress past the initial group stage. Although our hurlers failed to win a championship match, the team performed admirably and it is hoped the experience gained will stand the panel in good stead to kick on next season.A group stage win is vital in 2023 for this team to develop further. With big numbers training, the Junior B hurling championship and leagues in 2022 provided a competitive platform to ensure that all adult panelists got adequate playing time.

The Secretary Report also covered the ground maintenance and development over 2022. Special mention and praise was reserved for our scheme workers, Kenneth Santry and Ali Al-Rubaye, along with volunteers who regularly maintain the wash facilities. 2022 saw further Grounds Development with construction of the remaining perimeter walkway, installation of lighting to the walkway and the installation of PV panel system along with battery backup to help power the complex. It is hoped that resurfacing of walkway sections and ball stop netting will be completed in the coming year. The club reserved a special thanks to local councillor, John O'Sullivan for his advice and guidance on grant applications throughout the year and to the Development committee headed up by John Fleming.

The PRO Report was briefly reviewed by John O'Leary where the main item of note was the performance [reach] of the website and social media channels over the 2022 season. It was again noted a Club Archive is available with the ability to view thousands of Barryroe GAA records is available to all through a link on the Club website.

This was followed by the treasurer’s report which was presented by our treasurer, Michael Coleman. The report outlined the financial situation of the club for the year ending 2022. The dramatic decline of club lotto sales during the Covid 19 pandemic seems to have abated somewhat and 2022 saw a slight bounce back in sales, although still very far from the heedy heights of pre pandemic. Michael encouraged all supporters of the Club to regularly purchase tickets. Michaels thanked all who contributed to a very successful  racenight which was held in the Pier House, Courtmacsherry in late October. Coupled with the generosity of our sponsors, this fundraiser provided a much needed boost to the club finanaces. The Rebel Bounty draw has now evolved as a key source of alternative club funding during the calendar year. Similar to the race night, 2022 saw record sales and Michael thanked all club members for their subscriptions. Despite the increased sales, we did not see a winner in this years draw within the Club. We hope our luck will improve in 2023. The draw for the 5 x €100 also took place and the lucky winners were Denis O'Regan, Butlerstown; Anne Dullea, Ardgehane; Geoff Wycherley, Lislevane; John Fleming, Seven Heads; Daniel Whelton, Lislevane.

The final item on the financial agenda was the setting of membership fees for 2023 and they were confirmed as follows;

  • Full member [playing] €100
  • Full member [playing, student] €50
  • Full member [non-playing] €50
  • Social member €40
  • Youth member €40

It was reconfirmed that the ability to renew membership is available on-line and all previous players should be encouraged to continue to support the club. It was noted that a membership / registration day will occur sometime in early spring.

The Chairperson then said a few words and thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their efforts during the year. The Chairperson also thanked the various teams and their mentors for their efforts. He expressed the hope that our current crop of players at adult level will continue on the upward curve. Away from the playing fields Eoin remarked on the passing of many of our loyal supporters during 2022 but none more so than the passing of our esteemed President Vincent Sexton. Deepest sympathies were again expressed to the Sexton family on the passing of Vincent.

One of the final acts of the night was the election of officers whereby all outgoing officers were returned uncontested.
