Barryroe 1-10     Cloughduv   0-14  Sen Champ 25/8/13 in Bandon.

Jenny bows out as Barryroe fight to the end.

On an emotional day in Bandon, Cloughduv squeezed through by a single point. On paper, the mid Cork side looked far stronger, but a battling display kept the Blues in the game all through.

We got off to a decent start, Claire Sexton and Síle Burns winning frees which Jennifer O' Leary converted. Cloughduv had the next three scores, before Síle Burns, a Jenny O'Leary free and a fine left handed point by Síle left us 5-3 in front.

All this time however, Cloughduv had the better of the possesion but dogged defending was denying them too many scores. They did add points in the 27th and 28th minutes to level matters and a goal looked certain, before a fine interception by Eileen Carroll saved the day just before the break.

Five points each then at the break, but we now had to face the stiffish wind. Cloughduv had a point in the first minute, before Jenny equilized 30 seconds later. The Mid Cork side scored two points, before a foul on Clare Sexton, saw Jenny reduce the lead to 8-7. Cloughduv had another brace of points, before another foul on Clare Sexton saw Jenny bring the score back to 8-10.

Another Cloughduv point was matched by a Jenny O'Leary point from play, before Clare Sexton broke through for the only goal of the game on the twenty minute mark.

We were now a point to the good,(1-9 to 0-11), but Cloughduv levelled before Eimear White had to make a smart save although Cloughduv pointed from the clearance. With two minutes on the clock, they added another point to increase the gap to two. Síle Burns then cut the gap to the minimum, with time almost up. With the last attack of the game, Síle struck for what would be the levelling point, one umpire waved a point and one waved wide and unfortunatley the score was not given.

On the day when we said good bye to Jenny O'Leary, we went out fighting to the end and that's all you can ask of any team.

Senior Team
Barryroe 1-3                                            Douglas 2-15 (Bandon 28/7/13)

Missing five from last years team and having to compete at Senior A, meant we were always going to struggle at this level against a very good Douglas side.

The city side raced into a four point lead before Jenny O'Leary placed Síle Burns who rattled the Douglas net. The City side tagged on five more points before Jenny pointed a free. We then missed a goal chance, before another Jenny O'Leary point left just four between the teams.

Douglas added a point and then a goal on the break to leave us 1-2 to 1-10 at the interval.

The second half was all one way traffic alas, Jenny had our only score of the half, while Douglas added 1-11. Indeed matters could have been worse but  for an Eileen Carroll Goal line interception and a number of fine saves from Eimear White.

Not a great day at the office, but the spine of this team has given great service to the club and we will find it very hard to replace them.

Barryroe 6-6     Éire Óg   3-7    (H) 3/7/13

On Wednesday Barryroe played their second game in the Summer Cup competition at home to Eire Og. Barryroe recorded a victory on a scoreline of 6-6 to 3-7. Eire Og held the half time lead with the score at 2-6 to 2-4. We played against a strong wind in the opening half with the backs clearing well under great pressure from the Eire Og forwards. It was due to great workrate from all players that we found ourselves only 2 points down at half time against the strong wind. Scores in the first half came from Mary Sheehy-Cahalane, Geraldine Collins and Eimear White. We began the second half brightly with a goal and from there we pushed on. The backs were solid and dealt well with every Eire Og attack. Scores in the second half came from Debra O' Leary and Eimear White  It was a great team effort by everyone involved as everybody played their part in a well earned victory including the subs that came on at half time and the three girls who played an U16 game before hand. Well done to all involved.
The team was as follows: Maeve Sexton, Patricia Moloney, Eileen Carroll, Jennifer White, Carol-Ann O' Donovan, Karen Mc Carthy, Geraldine Collins, Debra O' Leary, Mary Sheehy-Cahalane, Carmel Griffin, Eimear White and Ciara Whelton. Kate Dullea and Sarah Dineen both made significant contributions when they came on at half time.

St. Catherine's 0-19                          Barryroe 1-11     (3/4/13)

Barryroe made the long trip to Ballynoe on Wednesday last for the opening game of the senior A league. Even though we did not get a win there were many positives from the match. It was an excellent all round team performance from every player with great determination and work rate shown by all. At half time the teams were deadlocked at 0-7 to 1-4 with Barryroe's goal coming from Jenny O'Leary having run all the ways from midfield to send an unstoppable shot to the top corner. In the end the difference was St.Catherine's strength and fitness as they finished the stronger scoring an impressive 19 points. Barryroe never gave up and contested every ball until the very end. It was a very good display by every player for our first league match of the year at Senior A. It finished on the night Barryroe 1-11, St.Catherines 0-19.
