Friday 01 Nov 2013U18 Camogie - West Cork Championship

Clonakilty NOTE CHANGE OF DATE and TIME 7.30, 19:00PM

There was nothing between the teams in the first game, but Barryroe just edged out the Clon/St.Colum's combination in the replay.

There was a heavy dew on the grass, but the pitch was in good condition as the game got underway in Clon.  Keeper Maebhdh Sexton was called into action early on and Clon/Colum's took the lead on seven minutes with a good point.  Within two minutes however, we were in front, when Caroline McCarthy's cross ended up in the net. We then went on to miss a number of chances, before Claire Tyndal extended our lead with a fine point. The home side answered within a minute, before Emma Deasy doubled on a high ball, for a classy score.

Within two minutes however, the sides were level, when Clon/Colum's got through for a goal. Points by Hannah Whelton and Caroline McCarthy put us two in front, but the Western combination goaled just on the break and we found ourselves a point down at the interval, 2-02 to 1-04.

Within minutes of the restart, we were level when Caroline McCarthy pointed a 45. Disaster struck however, when the home side goaled again and we were three behind with ten minutes gone in the second half.

There was no score for the next nine minutes, but by now we were getting on top around midfield. Hannah Whelton thundered into the game, and the long striking Sally Smith repeatedly drove Clon/Colum's back with some mighty clearances. From a scramble in the home goal, it looked like it was  Marie Dineen who got the final touch to level the scores again.

Two minutes later, we hit the front again as Caroline McCarthy pointed and when the same player pointed a free seven minutes later, there was two between the sides, 3-02 to 2-07.

We still had to face some anxious moments before Referee Ml Maloney's whistle brought the game to an end.

Perhaps we should have killed off the game in the first half, but we fought hard when we had to, and just about deserved the win.
