Sunday 17 May 2015Intermediate Hurling - Championship

Ballygarvan, 15:00PM

Barryroe had no answer to Aghada's second half display.

Barryroe made a match of it in the first half, but the East Cork side pulled away in the second.

It was bad news from the start, when injury meant mid fielder Tadgh Harrington, was unable to play. Aghada open at breakneck speed and had four points on the board to one from Kierán Hurley. Then in our only good spell of the game, Kierán added a point, Kieran Griffen pointed a free and when Dennis Harrinton fed Kierán Hurley, he drove for goal and though his shot was stopped, Gearoid Whelton was on hand to knock home the rebound.

There was 11 minutes on the clock and despite being outplayed, we found ourselves 1-3 to 4 points in front. Gearoid  Whelton's 20th minute point however, proved our only other score of the first half, while Aghada added four points to lead at the break by 8 pts. to Barryroe's 1-04.

The second half was all one way traffic, as Aghada added 1-13 to Barryroe's three points from Kieran Griffin, (2), and Kierán Hurley. To make matters even worse, we also lost Adrian Fleming and Mike O'Brien to injury while Johnnie O'Donovan finished the game on one leg.

We never really got started in this game, apart from the couple of minutes both sides of our goal. The physically stronger East Cork side dominated for most of the game and now we must pick ourselves up for the relegation battle with Ballincollig next up.
