Sunday 28 Jun 2015Intermediate Hurling - County Championship

Coachford (3rd round decider), 15:30PM

As with our last league game against Blackrock, this was a game of two halves. A strong wind blew down the pitch and Milford had first use of it. Despite the wind we had a decent opening ten minutes, with Dave O'Sullivan, John O'Donovan and Denis Harrington pointing to give us a three points to one start. The physically stronger North Cork side then got a grip on the match. From the 12th to the 22nd minute they added two goals and seven points to a second Dennis Harrington point.

Barryroe had gone with a small nippy forward line, but with high ball going in and it holding in the wind, the more powerful Milford backs were making hay. On twenty five minutes however, we got a break. A long range John O'Donovan free  was misjudged by the Milford 'keeper and the ball ended up in the net. Milford replied with two points to a John O'Donovan free, leaving Barryroe trailing by 2-10 to 1-05 at the break.

The second was a different story. Barryroe played at a higher tempo and the generally heavier Milford players began to struggle with the pace. John O'Donovan's opening point was cancelled out, but between the 8th and the 24th minute, Barryroe added eight points to Milford's one. Efforts from John O'Donovan, Tadgh Harrington, Jason Fleming and Mike Brien, left just one point between the sides, 1-14 to 2-12.

John ODonovan cancelled out a Milford point, before a trio of points for the North Cork side, put them four up at 2-16 to 1-15. Barryroe came back again and two John O'Donovan frees left just two between the sides, but try as we might, we could not bridge the gap.

We now face the losers of next week's Timoleague/ Aghabullogue clash, with the losers here returning to Junior hurling.
