Barryroe 4-16 Ballinscarthy 0-10

Barryroe travelled to Ballinascarthy on Saturday evening last to take on the hosts in the quarter final of the Junior 3 Championship and after an entertaining hours hurling Barryroe ran out deserved winners. The visitors quickly stamped their authority on proceedings with some fine scores from play by Conor O’Regan, Cahalane and the lively Harrington left Barryroe leading at the short whistle 0-09 to 0-07. On the resumption and with Barryroe playing into the dressing room goal the game was quickly put to bed with Harrington, O’Brien and O’Regan all finding the net to leave the hosts with an insurmountable task. Killian Lawton added some gloss to the final score with a great individual goal in the dying embers leaving the final score Barryroe 4-16 Ballinascarthy 0-10.

Barryroe lined out with the returning Billy O’Donovan in goals who was coolness personified over the hour as he orchestrated his defence sextet to limit the Ballinascarthy forwards to a meagre ten points. The no nonsense style of O’Leary, the tigerish Keohane and the hard hitting Crowley meant the full back line rarely looked in trouble. Ger Coleman rolled back the years and gave a masterclass in centre back play dominating numerous opponents over the hour and was flanked by two fine hurlers in Dave Kiely and Shane O’Driscoll. The midfield pairing of O’Regan and Cahalane covered every blade of grass in Ballinascathy as they offered support in defence and attack. Adrian Fleming on the 40 hurled a world of ball and set up numerous scores and was ably assisted by Killian Lawton and Jerome O’Brien who contributed to the scoreboard from placed balls and open play. Matthew O’Regan with his sublime first touch and the roving Sean Holland in the corners were both a handful for the Bal defence over the hour. Finally, to the Barryroe full forward Denis Harrington who over the 50 mins was at his impervious best and who on this performance would be at home in higher company as he tormented the home side. The Barryroe substitutes Conor Tyndall, Kevin O’Donovan, Kevin McCarthy and Matthew Sexton all contributed to a fine team performance.
