Kilbrittain take time to find their range

A stirring second half display along with two crucial goals helped Kilbrittain overcome West Cork rivals Barryroe in round 2A of the Cork IHC at Clonakilty yesterday.

A scrappy derby saw Barryroe enjoy a 1-08 to 0-07 interval lead including Daniel O'Driscoll's well taken goal. Kilbrittain took over in the second period and aided by strong wind, restricted their opponents to a single point.

Declan Harrington's 46th minute goal pushed Kilbrittain in front for the first time before Pat O'Mahony spotted Barryroe goalkeeper Billy O'Donovan off his line (having just taken a free) and found the net from halfway to secure victory with two minutes to go.

Initially Barryroe utilised the elements to build a 1-03 to 0-05 lead at the end of a terrific opening quarter. Tadgh Harrington's accuracy from placed balls saw his side take a four point advantage into the break but Kilbrittain racked up 1-05 without reply on the turnover until a Harrington free got Barryroe on the scoreboard. Kilbrittain replied instantly courtesy of a converted 65' ahead of Pat O'Mahony's opportunistic goal which cemented a hard fought victory.
