Barryroe 5-11 (26) Argideen Rangers 3-16 (25) AET

Barryroe squeezed home by the skin of their teeth in this U12 football shield semi-final on Monday evening last in Barryroe. Barryroe led at half-time by 3-4 to 0-11 however Timoleague gained a strong foothold midways through the second half and looked to be heading for victory when 5 points up with time almost up. However with keeper Cillian Coakley keeping Barryroe in the game with a string of good saves and backs Aaron Fleming and Ben O’Dwyer in top form, a late surge from the home side meant the game finished level at the end of normal time (5-10 to 3-16). And so, despite the tired legs, a further 10 minutes of exciting and free-flowing football followed with Barryroe just about edging it at the finish. Credit to both teams for serving up 70 minutes of entertaining football in trying conditions. It was a satisfying end to a busy day for the majority of the Barryroe panel who had earlier helped the local national school beat Ballinadee to qualify for the Sciath na Scoil football final in Pairc Ui Rinn at the end of the month – well done boys.
