Three men rescued by Courtmacsherry lifeboat

08 August, 2016

Southern Star Report

THE Courtmacsherry RNLI all-weather lifeboat was called out at 5.15pm on Sunday afternoon to go to the aid of three men who got into difficulty on a jet-ski and small pleasure boat on the West Cork coastline, just off the Seven Heads.

The lifeboat, under coxswain Sean O’Farrell, and with a crew of six, launched immediately and reached the area at 5.25pm where the three men’s crafts had overturned and they were in the water.

The casualties were blown on to the dangerous rocks at Seven Heads and the Courtmacsherry lifeboat succeeded in taking all three men from the rocks and on board the lifeboat. The trio were landed ashore at Courtmacsherry by the lifeboat and were extremely grateful to have been rescued so quickly.

The Irish Coast Guard unit from Seven Heads, the Coast Guard rescue helicopter and the Kinsale RNLI lifeboat all participated in the rescue.

Conditions at sea were very poor with strong winds, force 5 or 6, and heavy swells in the area.
