Barryroe 4-04 St. Colum's 1-02
On a bright Sunday morning, Barryroe U12 camogie girls took on St. Colum's for the West Cork B plate final. As always there is very little between these two teams and it was all go from the minute the ball was thrown in.
Barryroe girls did well and battled for every ball. The first score of the game came from a free for Barryroe. Ashiling McKeogh was free taker for the day and scored an excellent point this was to be followed by 2 more points from frees from Ashling along with a great goal.
This set Barryroe up and with some super defending by Alison & Ava & Ellen O’Riordan in goal kept Colums from scoring even though they did came close. Claire Dullea, Esther & Nicole kept the pressure on St. Colums forwards and ensured the ball got up the field to Holly Collins who scored a further 2 goals before the half time whistle. Lucy & Cliona, Mira & Tara were all there to help and were unlucky not to score themselves with it just going wide of the goal.
The second half was a much closer game and Colum's were getting stuck in, this was rewarded with a great goal. Our younger subs Imelda, Alannah, Emma, Ciardha, Madelin & Ellen O’Donovan came on and gave us fresh legs and all played super. Barryroe managed a point by Emma Collins and super goal after much effort from the forwards when Alannah hit the back of the net. St. Colums got a further 2 points before the final whistle was blown.
A great game, which was well played by both teams. Mira Collins (Captain) accepted the shield on behalf of her teammates.
