Barryroe GAA Racenight

17 May, 2017

The dogs are ready and the races are finalised for the Barryroe GAA Fundraising Night at the Dogs on this Friday night May 19th.

First race commences at 7:45pm with a nice looking ten race card. Of great local interest is that there are three local parish dogs running on the night. In the first race, John O'Regan Jnr of Butlerstown runs his black dog Sevenheads Star and is bound to attract the local support. Returning after a layoff, get there in time to see him compete. In race 5, the prolific big black dog called JohnJackBilly returns to the shorter sprint distance of 330 yards and is in trap 6. Owned by club players Billy and John O'Donovan along with Jack Murphy, he aims to put a few lazy disappointing runs of late behind him, but was twice a winner earlier in year. Best guide here is whether the three owners are going to bring off a gamble or not, watch their movements. In the final race 10 of the night, local owners Billy Drake and Vincent O'Donovan introduce a young pup in trap 3 for his first race. This pup was named during the recent Tops Variety show in Butlerstown and is aptly called Broadstrand Tops. In his first ever race, he is in against five more experienced dogs and unless you are well ahead of the bookies, be careful not to invest too much.

Of course when the 10 dog races are completed, we have a top class entry to the Lads and Ladies Relay race as the following will give their all to be crowned Champions of The Track for 2017……. Barryroe Gaa, Camogie Club, Golf Society, Macra Club, Ibane Gaels, Saturday morning runners and the Rowing Club.

Please buy your ticket for €20 before the night as this allows entry to two adults and two children plus a chance to win a Weekend away or a second prize of €200.
