Barryroe 1-11 St. Catherines 4-17

St. Catherine's ruthlessly progressed into the third round of the IHC at the expense of Barryroe. In this clash in Ballincollig, Catherine's showed their mettle on this particular occasion and they got their championship campaign right back on track in satisfactory fashion. Barryroe could not be faulted for effort, but they lacked the cutting edge which their opponents possessed here. This was the opportunity for both of these teams to make amends after round one defeats, where Barryroe were swatted aside by the second string of Glen Rovers, while St. Catherine's were edged out in a close affair by Cloughduv.

Both sides exchanged early scores, with Robbie Kiely and Jack Murphy pointing for Barryroe and Shane O'Brien and Brian Mulcahy for St. Catherine's. It was Catherine's, who indeed showed their quality the longer the half went on, that had the first sighting of goal when Patrick Roche was denied by a fantastic save from Barryroe keeper Billy O'Donovan. However the net was rattled on 21 minutes when Roche converted neatly from close range after Phillip Keane teed him up. Things gots even better for Catherine's just moments later. The influential Daniel Mangan found Rory Galvin with a terrific long pass, with the latter clinically converting to the back of the net.

Catherine's netted for a third time early in the second half, as Roche converted again after a good assist by Ben O'Brien. Mangan got an exceptional score form out wide, as his side always did enough to keep Barryroe at arms length, with Shane O'Brien and Conor Kearney also converting points. The net was rattled for a fourth occassion for Catherine's before the conclusion when Mulcahy smartly finished to the net.

Catherine's march onto the third round where they will face Castlemartyr, Barryroe exit the championship and await the conclusion of all round two games before their oppoents in the relegation play-offs are confirmed.

Barryroe scores: Jack Murphy (0-04f) 0-05, Billy O'Donovan 1-00p, Cathal Sheehy 0-02f, Daniel O'Driscoll 0-02, Robbie Kiely 0-01, Jason Fleming 0-01.
