GWAMW 2019 Presentation

18 October, 2019

The total proceeds from the third Great Wild Atlantic Marathon Walk held on August 10th amounted to €8,495. This figure for 2019 brings the total raised from the three years of walks to €23,322. This fantastic amount will be presented to Courtmacsherry Harbour Lifeboat on next Friday 25th October at the opening night session of the Maire Ni Sithigh weekend which features a panel discussion in the Pier House at 8pm, focusing on the Fastnet Yacht Race Tragedy of 1979. Taking part on the night will be Tom McSweeney (Former Marine correspondent of RTE), Gerard Butler (Irish Lighthouses and Historian), the Crew of the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat (Diarmuid O Mahony, Mark Gannon, PJ McCarthy and Cally McCarthy) and many more. This should be a riveting discussion and hoping for a great turnout with everyone invited.

Again our heartfelt thanks to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who helped on the walk day and ensured that the full €20 walk entry fee goes directly to the Courtmacsherry RNLI.  This is a joint initiative between Courtmacsherry Lifeboat and Barryroe Gaa as part of the RNLI and GAA "Respect the Water" partnership, with the entire proceeds going to the Lifeboat

It’s onwards and upwards for next year and the 2020 Walk will take place on Saturday August 8th 2020. The Walk is much more than a mere fundraising event as it’s part of a bigger initiative involving the RNLI and the GAA in the promotion of the Respect The Water Campaign to help prevent drownings at sea.
