Broadstrand Christmas Swim 2021

14 December, 2021

Its 46 Years ago, since a small group of locals, took to the sea at Broadstrand on Christmas Morning and started the annual tradition that has continued ever since. For decades this joined up venture between Courtmacsherry and Timoleague has raised much needed funds for the local Charities of COPE and Cystic Fibrosis.

Ever conscious of Covid again this year, there will not be a specific gathering on Christmas Morning in Broadstrand but one can swim there or anywhere, on Christmas Day or any day at any time over the Christmas period and contribute either online or to any committee member below. Every single contribution is divided in full between COPE in Clonakilty and the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Unit at CUH. Contributions online can be made at GOFUNDME.COM, and search Broadstrand Swim, which has been set up by the Courtmacsherry Development Association.

So once again for this year, it’s Broadstrand or any safe Strand and we will forever remember one of the shining lights of our Swims, the late Sean Connolly, from Cregane, whose wit and wisdom graced the Wild Atlantic waters at Broadstrand for decades on Christmas Morning.

Please adhere to all Covid Regulations and all Safe Sea Swimming guidelines.

Organising Committee: Dan Connolly, Micheal Hurley, Joan O'Donovan, Gerald O'Donovan, Liam Murphy, Martha Drake, Emma O'Sullivan, Vincent O'Donovan, Deirdre Barron and Stephen Finn.
