Barryroe just about make it through.....

01 June, 2013

Barryroe advanced to the 4th round of the intermediate championship after this narrow but deserved win over Aghabullogue in this entertaining 1st round championship match played in Brinny.
Barryroe were fired up for this game and started the game with points from Tadhg Harrington +David O Sullivan to lead by 2 points Aghabullogue replied with points of their own to level the scores at 0-02 each after 12 minutes ,Barryroe then hit a purple patch in the next 10 minutes and points from Tadhg Harrington , Adrian Fleming Mike O Brien ,Jason Fleming,Kieran Griffin , David O Sullivan +Tadhg Harrington again left the score at 0-09 to 0-02 after 22 minutes but then against the run of play  an Aghabullogue 65 that dropped short was touched to the net by full forward Greg Murphy to leave only 4 points in the game , Barryroe responded with a Tadhg Harrington Free who was very accurate from placed balls all night only for Aghabullogue to reply with 1 of their own to leave the half -time score 0-10 to 1-03 in favour of Barryroe.

Barryroe started the second half as they did the 1st with 3 quick points from Kieran Griffin ,Tadhg Harrington +Mike O Brien to open up a 7 point gap Aghabullogue hit the next 2 points to make it 0-13 to 1-05 ,Barryroe responded with 2  points from Denis Harrington and sub Ciaran Hurley to again lead by 7 , points were then  exchanged by Tadhg Harrington  and Dan Twomey to leave the score at 0-16 to 1-06 after 40 minutes play. Aghabullogue then hit over the next 3 scores to reduce the gap to 4 points by the 45th minute Barryroe steadied the ship with points from Adrian Fleming +Mike O Brien to put Barryroe 0-18 to 1-09 ahead with 10 minutes remaining then disaster struck when Barryroe were reduced to 14 men , this seemed to upset the team  and Aghabullogue took over around midfield and half back line and the pressure told with 1st a point and then a goal by Dan Twomey to leave only 2 points between the teams . It was all hands to the pump as Aghabullogue came forward in droves but the Barryroe defence stood firm to secure victory.A feature of the game was some of the very fine point scoring by both sides  ,all the Barryroe players + management can be pleased with this result which was only Barryroe's 2nd 1st round win since we went up intermediate in 2008 while  there were some very fine individual performances victory can be put down to a good all round team effort.
