50 years ago this year...+ Cork star's visit.

21 March, 2014

Having beaten Baltimore by a single point in the semi-final, Barryroe travelled to Skibb for the final against Goleen. A different style of football then and the half-time score was a point a piece, Bernard Harrington had the Barryroe score.

With the wind in the second half Barryroe pushed on and had points from Michael Whelton, Bernard Harrington and and Neilie Whelton. With the score at 4-2 and Goleen attacking, Barryroe broke away and sub John O'Regan had a point to leave the final score 5pts to 2 in favour of Barryroe.

The Barryroe team was ;

John O'Brien,(RIP), Jerh. Madden, Ml. Joe Whelton (RIP) and Donal O'Sullivan.

Laurance O'Donavan, Ml. Whelton and Denis O'Regan.

Teddy Harrington and Neilie Whelton.

Ml O'Regan, (RIP), Ml. Keohane and John Joe Coleman.

Bernard Harrington, Johnny Barry (RIP) and Diarmuid Kingston.

Subs, John O'Regan, Liam Sullivan (RIP), Jim Crowley and Peter Long.

William Fleming, F Santry, Barry O'Sullivan and John T Motherway, were also involved in earlier games.

A re-union was organised in the Pier House on St. Patrick's Day and was well attended.

Front Row, L-R. Paddy Murphy, John Joe Coleman, Maura Whelton, Maureen O'Regan, Veronica O'Sullivan, John O'Regan, Ml. Whelton and Denis O'Regan,

Back Row, Bernard Harrington, Laurance O'Donovan, Joe O'Sullivan, Teddy Harrington, Peter Long,Donal O'Sullivan, Dermot Kingston, Ml Keohane, Jim Crowley and Sean De Barra.

Strange but true...

Bernard Harrington, (above), brother to Teddy and uncle of Tadgh and Dennis.

It was to be 15 years before Barryroe would again win that competition and our current PRO, Dave Philpott, was playing then, but our PRO and Bernard had played together in the mid 70's when both were Nemo Rangers players.

It has been confirmed that Cork hurling Goalie Anthony Nash, will visit Barryroe on a Saturday in April. The exact Saturday has not been confirmed yet, but it's another high profile visitor for the club.
