Barryroe no match for Barrs in Camogie Championship.

28 July, 2014

When Barryroe won the Senior "B" championship two years ago, it was a cause of great celebration, but we knew it would actually cause big problems down the line. We were automatically promoted, ( no choice), but those close to the team knew that it was a swansong song for some great club servants. In the Senior "A" championship the following year, we were missing five from that team, and now that great club servant, Jennie O'Leary, has moved to pastures new.  Another couple of great club servants will be gone in a year or two and we now find ourselves having to blood youngsters at Senior "A" level.

The senior "A" grade in camogie is a strange  beast. It really consists of three levels. Douglas, Milford etc. and one or two more, would occupy the top tier, fairly near to Intercounty level. The Barrs would be among those in the second tier and at this point we would be perhaps in the third tier. However all play in the same Championship.

The problem is trying to rebuild a team, while competing against teams near intercounty level.

We gave it everything we had tonight, but the class difference was huge. We have been playing in the Summer Cup, which is about Senior "B" level, and we are doing fairly well there, but is being forced to play at Senior "A" grade serving any purpose for us at the moment ?

Tough times ahead for the Coaching staff.
