They're off, as U12 Camogie team take to the field.

21 March, 2015

On a fantastic bright spring day, our first outing of the year took the U12 girls to Clonakilty for a Blitz.  Whilst we were scheduled to play 6 games, time ran out and we ended up playing five.
First up was Sliabh Rua, It took our girls a little while to get into the game, but when they did they took off with gusto.  You would never think that for some this was there first time on a pitch since last October.  Dan quickly got a handle on all the new recruits which we had borrowed from our u10 squad.  Ellen O'Riordan was our star goalie for most of our matches and made some great saves.  Jessica & Ciara in midfield were a great team and kept the ball going foward all the time.  A super goal by Eimear Sheehy was to be the only score of the game but it was enough for our girls and to win our first game was a great boost.

Second up was St. Colums, now they struggled to field a team, so some of our brave girls donned the opposition jersey and tackled well for them. Again it took a few seconds for them to realise which way to hit the sliothar, a great goal by Tara started the Barryroe run followed by goals from Alison & Holly.   Second half saw the subs coming on and another 3 goals from Barryroe,  2 from Alison & 1 Tara. Whilst our defence in Chloe & Ava & Roisin made sure we kept a clean sheet again. Finished 6-0.  It was great to see all the girls subbing in and out and all girls getting a run on the pitch.

Third game - Ballinscarthy.  Now they had no shortage of players, so it was back to business, with great efforts coming from Mira Collins & Roisin McCarthy in the forwards. Goals came from Emma & another from Eimear, who was on a roll today. Again our backs Imelda & Alison & Esther played great and kept a clean sheet in defence. Second half goals by Claire Dullea & and Roisin meant that we finished the game.  5-0. Time for a well earned break and quick bite to eat before next game.

Next up was Kilmeen.  Most people know these have been our rivals for the past few years, with Eileen McCarthy on the Kilmeen sideline and her sister Teresa flying the Barryroe flag.  Unfortunately, Eileen could not be there today but they still had some noisy supporters on the sideline.  This was to be the fastest and toughest game for our girls.  Kilmeen are a strong team and after much effort they finally scored a goal.Claire Tobin Ciara & Jessica played well in midfield.  It was to be the only score of the game even though our girls did everything to get it over the line, the defence proved too strong. Great saves by Ellen made sure nothing else was getting over the line.  Game finished  1-0.

Final game against Clonakilty.  Dan gave Ellen a break and went outfield and it was Tara & Claire in the second half  turn in goal for a while.  Girls were back on form after a rest and ready to start scoring again.  A goal by Eimear (I said she was on a roll!) and a fantastic goal from halfway out from Roisin got us off to a great start.  Great play by Ashling and Lauren in defence this time along with Ava & Imelda made sure Clon girls didn’t put too much pressure on Tara. Again at half time the girls changed positions and girls were taken off and the subs went on to get their run.  Jessica started the scoring with a point followed swiftly by a goal from one of our new recruits Mira and to finish it off another goal from Roisin.  Game finished 4-1 to 0
The girls showed that whilst only just back in training, the training in school has also paid off as you could not say anyone was rusty---not with all those goals anyway.
Todays squad were as follows: Eimear Sheehy, Ciara Collins, Lauren Tobin, Mira Collins, Roisin McCarthy, Claire Tobin, Ava McCarthy, Aishling McKeogh, Holly Collins, Imelda Whelton, Chloe Fleming, Jessica McCarthy, Emma Collins, Ellen O’Riordan, Alison McCarthy & last but not least Esther Scallan Dowd.

After todays blitz the girls will commence the league.  Our first game is scheduled against Sliabh Rua in the next week or so.  The girls will be well recovered by then and ready to do battle all over again.

Under 12 squad on a sunny day.
