Intermediate Hurling Draws 2016
17 December, 2015
The Intermediate Championship for 2016 sees an addition of 10 teams from 16 up to 26. Nine second teams have been automatically promoted from Junior A ranks as part of the new County Board rules which allows Senior or Premier Intermediate Hurling teams to add their second team to Intermediate ranks. Add this to Barryroe who were allowed back in and newly promoted Dungourney makes up the numbers. Full list of teams in next year's championship can be seen below.

Barryroe drew 2015 Junior A County Champions, Dungourney in the preliminary round.
A win in the preliminary round sees us advance to the First Round against Douglas second team.
A loss in the preliminary round sets up second round back-door against the losers of Ballincollig and Meelin.
An advance to the first round and then loss to Douglas would set up a second round back door against the losers of Milford and Iniscarra seconds.
To reach the third round requires subsequent wins in the preliminary and first rounds or a win in either of the back-door scenarios above.
A loss in the second round back-door sees us enter a relegation play-off league consisting of 7 teams. Finishing in bottom 2 sees us down to Junior A ranks.
So unlike 2015, you only have one back-door chance at remaining in championship if you lose first round. However, should you win first round and lose the third round, you have one more life. This is a long-awaited change as many teams int he past have won their first round game, only having to wait 2-3 months before the next game is played which was previously knock-out.
Format of draw is as below :
Preliminary Round. Four teams. 2 games. Winners to Round 1, Losers to Round 2B
Round 1. 24 teams. 12 games. Winners to go to Round 2A. Losers to Round 2B.
Round 2A. 12 teams (Winners of R1) 6 Games, Winners go to Round 4. Losers to Round 3
Round 2B. 14 teams (12 Losers of R1 and 2 Preliminary Round losers) 7 Games. Losers of the preliminary Round must play in this round. Winners to Round 3. Losers eliminated from the championship and play off until the two lowest teams are identified.
Round 3. 13 teams (Losers of R 2A (6) v Winners of R 2B (7)). 6 Games + 1 Bye to Round 4.
Winners to R4. Losers eliminated.
Round 4. 13 teams (Winners of R 2A v Winners of R 3 + 3 byes). 5 Games. Winners + 3 Byes to quarterfinals. Only winners of R2 can get a Bye in this round.
Quarterfinals. Winners of Round 4 + 3 Byes. 8 teams. 4 Games
Semi-finals. 4 Teams. 2 games
The earliest date fot the preliminary round is the weekend of 14th \ 15th May.
With regards to the League, a new division will be added for the second teams. It is yet to be decided whether Barryroe will remain in Division 3 or added to the new division.
