Kilbree, 12:30PM

TRAFFIC JAM IN ROSSMORE ON A SATURDAY MORNING.

all roads led to Rossmore on Saturday morning.  First it was the turn
of the U10 boys to play in a blitz along with a couple of other local
clubs and as they departed the pitch ,covered in more than a little bit of mud, it was then the turn of the U8 & U10 girls to take on the home team infirst game of the season.

As both Kilbree & Barryroe had 16 U10 girls, it was agreed that we would play two teams of 8 a side.  This ensured that everyone got a full game.

The girls took no notice of the damp conditions and each team got stuck in from the start.  the following is a brief report from one of games:
Barryroe got to grips with their opponents quickly and everyone made
sure that every hit of the ball was heading towards the forwards..
Kilbree were very strong midfield and it took a bit of maneuvering from
Aishling, Claire & Lucy to get around them.  Holly Collins put the
first score on the board with a crafty goal.  however this was followed
very quickly by a strong push from the Kilbree girls which resulted in
a goal for them just before half time.
The second half was all about maintaining stamina as the girls were
getting a little tired as conditions deteriorated and the ground was
getting wet & slippery.    Barryroe played fantastic and kept pushing
forward  to the very end and were very unlucky that attempts from
Aishling & Imelda went just wide of the posts. Great play from Lucy &
Ellen who stuck to their opponents like glue in the second half.
Kilbree managed to secure a late goal to seal the game.

The other U10 game was also well fought,  Barryroe played great ground
hurling which was the order of the day.  They were put under pressure
from the outset with 2 quick goals from Kilbree however this did not
deter them and they all fought hard to get the ball up the field.
However despite the best efforts of Tara, Ciardha & Claire they could
not get the sliothar passed a very strong Kilbree goalie. Kilbree were
fast off the mark in the second half and scored again.  Esther & Alison
were very unlucky in the dying minutes of the game not to get a goal as
they put huge pressure on the Kilbree backs.  However, Kilbree won
out.
Overall it was a great to get the season started and come home knowing
that we have it all to do again on Monday evening in Kilbrittain.

Sister act

with Teresa Tobin manning the Barryroe sideline, and her sister Eileen doing likewise for Kilbree, it had to have been the noisiest match of the year so far.  Sorry we have no pics of the sisters.  but they were happy out running up & down the sideline in their wellies.!!.
