Friday 20 Jun 2014Junior A Hurling - League

Barryroe, 20:30PM

There were a few old faces returning to the fold for this Junior League game on Friday night. This was the first of a series of League games, that saw the likes of Brian O'Donoghue, Peter Keohane, Matthew O'Regan, Shane O'Driscoll and others, return to the fold. With a number of young lads also available, we had some twenty odd players togged off for the game.

The visitors had the best of the opening stages, points from Sean Whelton and Daniel O'Driscoll keeping us in touch as they scored 6pts. On twenty minutes, however, we were level, as the impressive Daniel O'Driscoll had the game's first goal. Jack Murphy, faultless from frees, had a point and then a fine score from play after good work from Matthew Sexton. The visitors however, continues to tack on the points and were ahead at the break by 10 pts to 1-05.

Five minutes gone in the second half and points from Jack Murphy and Daniel O'Driscoll to one for Randals, saw us just one behind at 1-7 to 11pts.

Randels almost broke through for a goal then, but a smart intervention by Aidan Carroll saved the day and within minutes we were ahead as veteran Matthew O'Regan, connected with a long delivery to rattle the net. Shades of the famous Jimmy Barry goal here.

We were 2-7 to 11 points up now, but two quick Randal's points levelled the game. On twenty two minutes however, disaster struck. A long ball was delivered into our goal area, Jer Keohane, who pulled off a stunning save in the first half, had his view obstructed by one of the backs and the visitors had a soft goal.

A goal down now, 2-7 to 1-13, Barryroe rallied with two Jack Murphy points to reduce the gap to a point, but two late points for the visitors to another Jack Murphy effort, meant we just came up short on a score line of 2-10 to 1-15.

A good entertaining game, with one or two players putting their hands up for the first team.
