Monday 15 Jun 2015Intermediate Hurling - League

Blackrock, 19:45PM

The Rockies are playing the Barrs in the back door of the Senior hurling Championship on Sunday and the team that took the field reflected this. Barryroe were flying on the beautiful Church Road surface in the first half. We had points from John O'Donovan, Dave O'Sullivan, Tadgh Harrinton and Gearoid Whelton, and while we never threatened to score a goal, we turned over leading by 12 points to 3.

The home side were very poor in the first half, firing a large number of wides and Barryroe looked better than a team worried about relegation. The home side however, woke up after half time. Backed by a strong cold breeeze, they quickly added 1-01, although the goal we conceded was of the soft variety. Mark Crowley lifted the pressure, batting a cross over the bar, (it could have so easily been a goal).

Dave O'Sullivan, John O'Donovan and Damian Kiely had points against four for the Rockies and with ten minutes on the clock, we looked safe leading by 18 pts to 1-08.

We were not to score again however and the home side added 1-03 in the final ten minutes, with Barryroe glad of the final whistle. Indeed the home side were unhappy that no injury time was played.

It's hard to say where we are after this game. I was impressed by our first half performance, all be it against a strangly quiet opposition, but we were hanging on at the end.
