Barryroe AGM Report 2017

19 November, 2017

Report on Barryroe GAA Club AGM 2017

The Club AGM took place on Friday night the 17th November in the club gym. The chairman, Sean de Barra, welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance.

The minutes of the 2016 AGM were taken as read and this was followed by the Secretary’s report for 2017.

Richard Murphy, our secretary, was complimented by the Chairman on presenting such a detailed report which was then passed by the meeting. This was followed by the treasurer’s report which was professionally presented by our treasurer, Michael Coleman, and which outlined the healthy financial situation of the club for the year ending 2017. The report was then accepted by those present.

The chairman then said a few words and thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their trojan work during the year and especially Richard and Michael in their tireless work in purchasing the adjoining land for future development. Blue Broe (Vincent and Norman) were also commended for all their assistance in relation to this matter. The chairman also thanked the various teams and their mentors for their efforts. He congratulated the Ibane Gaels U15 & U16 teams on winning hurling and football county titles and expressed the wish that patience be shown with this group of talented individuals and that they graduate to the adult teams naturally and not be forced. He expressed the hope that our current young crop of players at adult level will continue on the upward curve and show more consistency at league level which should then transform to championship. All present expressed the opinion that this year's championship win over hot favourites Meelin shows that on our day we are a match for any team at this grade and bodes well for the future.

The executive thanked Brendan Coleman, John McSweeney, Kevin McCarthy and Kevin O'Donovan for their sterling work with the adult teams and hope that their endeavours will be rewarded on the playing fields in 2018.

The next item on the agenda was the collection of membership fees for 2018, where the amount remained unchanged at €50 for playing member, ditto for family membership, €30 for non-playing member. It was reconfirmed that the ability to renew membership is available on-line and all previous players should be encouraged to continue to support the club. Richard noted that the membership / registration day was a great success this year and it is hoped this will be replicated again in 2018, possibly late February / March.

The election of officers was next on the agenda. All outgoing officers were returned uncontested.

The meeting concluded with a short discussion on the current vacant positions in the Cork executive which has seen the nominated candidates canvassing hard in recent times.

The chairman thanked everyone for their attendance and wished the club every success in 2018.
