Juniors lose football playoff

12 November, 2018

Barryroe 2-08 (14) Kilbrittain 3-07 (16)

Two Kilbrittain first half goals in as many minutes changed the course of this Junior A Football Relegation play off game in a winterish Bandon on Sunday morning last. For the opening quarter it was the Barryroe lads who had dominated proceedings racing into a commanding 1-04 to 0-01 lead. The goal a well worked move with centre forward Sean Holland finishing to the net with aplomb. Following two quick fire goals from Kilbrittain in the 19th and 20th minute they then assumed total control and retired at the short whistle leading 2-04 to 1-05.

Kilbrittain added to their lead with the opening score of the second half but gradually Barryroe's centre axis of Kiely, Crowley, Murphy and Holland regained control and when substitute Tieran McKeown finished to the net in the 39th minute to regain the lead, 2-07 to 2-05, they looked the most likely to kick for home. But alas, after a period of wastlefulness by both sides in tough conditions, the pendulum swung back in favour of the black and amber after they finished to the net in the 56th minute. With the last kick of the game they added the insurance point to run out winners on a final score of Kilbrittain 3-07 Barryroe 2-08.
