01 December, 2018

Report on Barryroe GAA Club AGM 2018

The Club AGM took place on Thursday night the 29th November in the club gym. The Chairman, Sean de Barra, welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance.

The minutes of the 2017 AGM were taken as read and this was followed by the Secretary’s report for 2018. Richard Murphy, our Secretary, was complimented by the Chairman on presenting such a detailed report. The report comprehesively reviewed all playing action for the 2018 season and it was commented that an opportunity may have been lost in our narrow championship defeat to Blackrock who subsequently reached the final. The performances of the Junior A footballers was discussed at length, where it was noted that an alarming sequence of results over the last number of years has seen us drop to Division 3 league football for the forthcoming 2019 season, this compounded by some disappointing championship results and performances has added to a few poor years with the big ball. It is hoped that a big effort from all concerned will see the club reaffirm itself in the latter stages of championship 2019. In other matters the meeting was brought up to speed on the current status of the generator and the hope that it will be in action before year's end. The Secretary's report noted the renaming of the club grounds to Páirc Uí Mhurchú. Richard speaking on behalf of the Murphy family spoke of the great honour the club had bestowed and thanked everyone who was involved. Following this thorough review the Secretary's report for 2018 was passed by the meeting.

This was followed by the treasurer’s report which was professionally presented by our treasurer, Michael Coleman, and which outlined the financial situation of the club for the year ending 2018. Michael thanked all involved in getting the new ground to a state where it can now be used for games. The importance of the club lotto also became quite apparent and the lotto committee were thanked for their trojan work during 2018. The report was then accepted by those present.

The Chairman then said a few words and thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their efforts during the year. The Chairman also thanked the various teams and their mentors for their efforts. He expressed the hope that our current young crop of players at adult level will continue on the upward curve and show more consistency at league level which should then transform to championship.

The executive thanked Brendan Coleman, John McSweeney, Kieran Griffin and Kevin O'Donovan for their sterling work with the adult teams on the playing fields in 2018. Brendan indicated for the 2019 season that he wished to continue his involvement with the adult teams but more in the capacity of a coaching. The search has commenced for a Manager to oversee both adult codes, any interested parties in this role are encouraged to make themselves known to either Brendan or Richard.

The next item on the agenda was the collection of membership fees for 2018, where the amount remained unchanged at €50 for playing member, ditto for family membership, €30 for non-playing member. It was reconfirmed that the ability to renew membership is available on-line and all previous players should be encouraged to continue to support the club. Richard noted that the membership / registration day will occur sometime in early spring.

It was decided that over the coming months a Development Committee be established to formulate a plan for the further development of the grounds. One of the final acts of the night was the election of officers and under the stewardship of Club President Vincent Sexton all outgoing officers were returned uncontested.

The officers returned to their seats and the chairman thanked everyone for their attendance and wished the club every success in 2019.
