#onthisdate

14 October, 2019

On this date forty years ago all roads led to Kilbrittain Park for the Junior II football final between Barryroe and St. Oliver Plunketts of Ahiohill. Supposedly it was the biggest crowd even seen at a match in Kilbrittain and there was scarcely a household in Barryroe that wasn't represented. Shortly after last Mass the exodus began. For the first half the teams were locked together at 0-03 each, but on the resumption Barryroe's superior football began to show it's merit on the scoreboard as they entered the last quarter with Barryroe leading 0-07 to 0-04. Dave Philpott's classical goal and Dan Dwyer's point from a fifty put the issue well beyond doubt. The team played very much as a unit and Dave Philpott's personal tally of 1-06 is worthy of special mention.

Barryroe lined out as follow's D.Whelton, N.Tobin, T.Carroll, B.O'Sullivan (Capt), V.O'Donovan, M.O'Sullivan, K.White, T.McCarthy, N.Fleming, M.Holland, D.Dwyer, N.Whelton, J.O'Leary, D.Philpott. E.Coveney. Subs: C.Finn, P.Fleming, M.White, J.Drake, J.Tobin, D.Madden, M.Sexton, G.O'Donovan and E.Dwyer.
