Barryroe are Magic!

19 November, 2020

#onthisdate 25 years ago the Barryroe Junior 'A' Camogie team claimed the county title for the first time on Sunday the 19th November in Bandon where they defeated Brian Dillions on a score of 2-04 to 1-05.

Barryroe urged on by their huge following dominated the first half. Geraldine Collins opened Barryroe's scoring when she smashed home a great goal. Michelle Fleming added a point, before Geraldine Collins was again on hand to score her second goal. Two further points from Michelle Fleming and Geraldine Collins left the score 2-03 to 0-02 at half time, in favour of Barryroe.

If Barryroe dominated the first half, then large periods of the second half belonged to Brian Dillions. They added 1-03 in the second half and would have been more only for some great defending by Elaine McCarthy, Geraldine Carroll and Ann Sheehy in the backline and Cora Keohane in goal. Just as Brian Dillions seemed to be taking control, Colette Cahalane made an inspirational run up the field, which led to Barryroe's final score from Deirdre Walsh. This lifted Barryroe, and they finished the game the stronger team, despite a few scares.
