Report on Michael Whelton with Cork U 14 West squad.....

14 July, 2013

Micheál played with the rebel Óg academy on 13/07/13. First up at 11am was against Kerry(North) in sweltering temperatures of 23 degrees. Cork won by a narrow margin of 1 point after leading at half time by 9 points. All to the showers, rested and watered 'till their next challenge - Limerick at 2pm. Cork proved far too strong for Limerick and gained easy access to the next round.

Both Cork west and Cork east qualified for semi finals played at 3:30; times reduced to 15 minutes per half as temperatures reached high twenties. Cork west met Kerry(South) in a very exciting clash, while Cork east played Tipperary. Both Cork teams had a penalty awarded against them with 7 minutes to go, Tipperary notching a goal on their score board - However Micheál dived low and prevented Kerry the same glory keeping the game level. Unfortunately, Kerry went on to score a further 3 points getting them through to the final against Tipperary.

Great day for Cork football with both west and east being beaten at semi final stage - makes the selectors Jobs much harder for the next stage.

Special thanks to all mentors from Micheál to get this far at a young age.
