Camogie team reach County Final. (06 Oct 2012)

06 October, 2012

Barryroe 3-9           Éire Óg 0-7

Semi-Finals are rarely classics and this was true of this game tonight. The temperature had dipped by throw-in time and both teams struggled to find their touch on a dew soaked pitch.

Two minutes in, Jenny O'Leary pointed a free and the same player added a second on six minutes before Eire Óg opened their account with a point.  Six minutes later, Louise Gannon showed what she could do with a fine point from out on the wing. Geraldine Collins and Síle Burns added two more, before Jenny burst on to a cross field ball and rattled the back of the net.

Éire Óg answered with two points of their own, Denise O'Sullivan went close for Barryroe, before two more points from Síle Burns, and one from the Ovens side, saw us take a half time lead of 1-7 to 0-4.

Éire Óg started the second half brightly, but we drew first blood when Jenny pointed a free. The Mid Cork side added two points and on the quarter hour mark came close but for Eileen Carroll to intercept.

Clare Sexton then set up Síle Burns for a fine point. The score was nor 1-9 to 0-6 and with thirteen minutes left, Éire Óg came in search of the goal they needed, but  Eimear White stood tall in goal. She pulled off two great saves in quick succession, with Éire Óg having to be satisfied with a point. With seven minutes to go, Síle  Burns struck for another goal to break the hearts of our opponents. They did come back but again found Eimear White unbeatable in the Barryroe goal.

With time almost up, we got a third goal, this was a scrambled affair, with Geraldine Collins being credited with the final touch.

We are now in the Senior B County final and we await the winners of the Clonakilty v Timoleague/Kilbrittain game, so the trophy with be West Cork bound no matter what.
