Three out of three for Camogie team as they beat a tough Glen Rovers side. (21 Sep 2012)

21 September, 2012

Barryroe 3-10    Glen Rovers 2-5

Forty minutes before the throw in the City side were out on the pitch doing their warm up drills, they meant business. This game was different from the earlier group games, the free flowing hurling was replaced by a dog fight, but our girls were more than ready for that.

Sile Burns had our opening point and just a minute later, Geraldine Collin's half hit shot found the net. The Glen came back up the field, Eimear White made a fine save, but we failed to clear the ball and the Blackpool side goaled. Síle added a point, then a goal and when Rosemary Dineen was fouled, Jenny O'Leary added the point. With a minute however, the Glen had their second goal. The score was 2-3 to 2-0 in our favour and less than ten minutes gone.

The man on the scoreboard then got a rest for ten minutes, before we had the best score of the game. Jenny went on a solo run, flicked the ball over her opponent and collected again to add a great point.

The City side had their first point of the game on 19 minutes and a minute later, Eimear White diverted a goal bound shot over the bar. Jenny added a point from a free, the Glen replied with a point and it took another fine save from Eimear to leave us ahead at the break by 2-5 to 2-3.

We started the second half brightly, Jenny (2pts) and Geraldine Collins(1pt) pushed us five points clear. A Glen Rovers point was cancelled out by a long range Jenny effort. A foul on Sile Burns gave Jenny another point and the game was won in the 16th minute of the second half when Denise O'Sullivan was on hand to score the goal that won the game.

We were now 3-9 to 2-5 ahead and the Blackpool side needed a goal. They went close with a quickly taken free, but we cleared the danger. A couple of minutes from full time, a Síle Burns point finished the scoring.

I felt this was our best display yet.  We were against a good side and we gave a much more even display, not relying just on the big name players, but everyone rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in.

There is one more Group game to come, (against Valley Rovers), but we now top the group and are almost sure of a semi-final spot.
