Second win for camogie team in Championship (21 Aug 2012)...

21 August, 2012

Barryroe 4-16                  Newscestown 1-15

You never get anything soft from Newscestown at any level and once again they put up a great battle before finally having to give way to Barryroe at the fine Clonakilty venue tonight.

Newscestown opened brightly, they went a point up and Lisa Delea made a  goal line clearance as the Blues faced an opening storm. They added two more points before Jennifer O'Leary made a fine interception to point. The same player then had a pointed free, Newscestown had another point, and Síle Burns opened her account with a point

On 15 minutes a Newscestown goal rattled the Blues, but with minutes, Clair Sexton, (who had a fine game), hit  the net to leave Barryroe just a point down,1-3 to 1-4. Jennifer O'Leary had two points which were quickly answered and on 24 minutes, Newscestown almost had another goal, but Eileen Carroll intercepted and the danger was averted. Within minutes Eimear White diverted a goal bound shot over the bar. Sile Burns and Jennifer O'Leary added points, but a late score for the Red and Yellows saw them lead at the break by 1-7 to 1-8.

Geraldine Collins levelled just after the brek, Newscestown had a point, but a foul on Síle Burns saw Jennifer level matters once again. The game turned 6 minutes in. Geraldine Collins found Síle Burns with a great ball and the Cork star duly goaled. Newscestown came back with a point and a Jennifer O'Leary free say Barryroe lead by 2-10 to 1-10. A Síle Burns point was followed by a Denise O'Sullivan goal saw the Blues 3-11 to 1-10 in front.

That would have finished most teams, but Newscestown are made of sterner stuff.  Eimear White was again called on to produce another fine save, Síle Burns two points were cancelled out by two fine scores, Jennie had a free and that was quickly answered, before Síle Burns finally put the game beyond with a quick goal and a point. A Jennifer O'Leary point and Clair Sexton's second goal finished our tally, but again our opponents came back for two more points.

Final score Barryroe 4-16 Newscestown 1-15, wonderful scoring in a great match.

Barryroe must still play Glen Rovers and Vally Rovers in their group and the top two reach the County Semi-Finals.
