David Haye to retire ?

18 November, 2013

David Haye underwent five hours of surgery on Thursday last, (14th), to reconstruct his right shoulder, the outlook however is not great. For the full story, click here.

On the Friday of the Boxer's visit, we had about 60 visit's to our website. This was quiet good for a rural gaa club with the season virtually over and no matches to report. Just after midnight,  the Kieran Mc Carthy of the Southern Star picked up on our Tweets and retweeted our Web addresse.

Saturday morning, my brother Pat, rang me and the conversation went like this.

Me:  "Hallo"

Pat : "David Haye has retweeted , Eileen Carroll's tweet to his almost a million followers."

To those of you who are already lost,  Eileen sent a message, basically saying you should check out the Barryroe GAA site.  Although the message was not directed to David Haye,  he picked it up and sent the same, (go look at the Barryroe GAA website message) to nearly one million people. Luckily for us not all took up the offer, or the website would have crashed.

Saturday things began to hum on the website. I was watching it live as the the number of visitors rose and rose. I was sitting in Ramsey Hill with a map of the world on my computer and lights flashing every time some one new logged on.

We had nearly 2000 visits that day, and while most of the hits were from the U.K, America, Australia etc., there were also visits from such places as Thailand, Chile Romania, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.

What they made of a Football/Camogie/Hurling Website in West Cork, God only knows. The Southern star were first out of the blocks looking to use our stuff, while the Examiner rang me on Monday and our pictures featured on Tuesday morning.

The story also made the Peoples Republic of Cork website, (PROC).

Perhaps because  the news of Haye's probable retirement, I noticed the the hits on our website have gone back up today.

Some more pictures from last Friday.

The limelight is way too bright  for Jer.

A brave, (crazy?) cameraman looking for the best shot, dosen't realise how hard a bowl is.

The best hurlers are always on the ditch.

Obviously a dog lover.

James O'Donovan looks relaxed, but David Haye looks worried as James Barry explains the rules to him.
