Nothing goes right for Barryroe as Bandon advance.

02 August, 2014

Some supporters might have been a little harsh on the players as they left the ground tonight, but I think we have come a very long way in a short time.

We turned up for the football championship in recent years, but that's about it. This year it was decided to make an effort and we HAVE come a long way, knocking out a couple of football only teams on route. Nobody could have guessed we would end up without Mike, Jason and Kieran tonight and the back door in hurling caused problems for the footballers.

Look at the Cork senior footballers. They finally appear to have some game plan, although tomorrow will tell a lot. We had to virtually start from scratch and for long periods we twarted the Bandon attack. The problem was that they had Sugrue.

Nowadays major teams spend hours studying referees. We don't have  the time to do this at Junior football level,  so you have to read him pretty quickly. Bandon did that tonight and played him well.

By the way, this is not a criticism of Bandon, it's more a compliment really.  It usually comes with experience and I have a medal at home, won for over acting to a late tackle.

We often got through the first line of the Bandon defence in the second half tonight, but we got a bit over excited and took wrong options. Again ice in the veins usually come with time.

There were numerous times in the game where little things went wrong for us, like two men going for the one ball and the one coming forward not calling for it. A lot of the hand passes were a little off and even if the went to hand, having to check for a split second can lose you the chance. We didn't always shoot when the chances  first presented themselfs, again time should cure that.

Sporting wise I can be hard to please and I have sent many a person running for shelter when I get technical on tactics etc, but I was proud of the team this year and so should all Barryroe followers.

Don't forget, tagann ciall le h-aois.

A turning point in the game.

Jason played on for a while, but eventually had to give in to the leg injury.
