Clon Refugee Solidarity group/ ALL COACHES MUST READ+ Jamie Wall

All G.A.A. clubs in the region have been contacted by the
“Calais Clonakilty Refugee Solidarity” group, set up by concerned local people to co-ordinate and facilitate the collection of aid for the refugees in Calais. The Clonakilty group is part of Cork Refugee Solidarity group set up by Tracey Ryan which is sending a convoy to France at the end of September. So far we will have a 10 tonne truck and approximately 14 cars/vans.

We have produced a poster (attached) which we are distributing locally. We would really appreciate if you could display this prominently in your club. We are particularly anxious to get in touch with families and teenage boys since the camp in Calais is 90% male and many of these are teenage boys.
Clothing is in short supply and with the approaching winter the situation there could get more desperate very quickly. Young men are likely to have the kinds of things we need (sleeping bags, tracksuits, warm clothing etc).
We don’t wish to pressurise people to donate, but by necessity we are mobilising quickly and we do need to urgently inform people that there is a pathway to help if they so wish.
The showgrounds in Clonakilty have been offered as a venue for collection, sorting and labelling and we are distributing posters to let people know what is needed and how to donate. The poster has details of times to drop off goods. We have organised vehicles and drivers to convoy the goods collected and have linked with aid distribution centres in Calais to co-ordinate distribution on site. Everybody involved is working entirely voluntarily.
