U 12 Camogie team win thriller. Plus Ibane finals.

18 October, 2015

Today our u12 girls showed what they were made of. After taking the long journey west, it was a perfect afternoon for a game. Barryroe were playing with the wind for the first half and it was full steam ahead from the second the sliothar was thrown in. With Ciara & Jessica in midfield getting the ball up to the fowards, it was up to Eimear to get the first score of the match. A great goal after 6 minutes. St. Colums were strong and had some great passing, but in the first half failed to get too many passed the backs of Aine Lauren & Claire Tobin, Aine had some super clearances to keep the pressure off our great goalie Ellen and Claire Dullea & Ava. the smallest of margins at half time. A great point taken by Jessica at the start of the second half settled the girls but not for long as Colums now had the wind and followed with a quick goal. Barryroe were quick to bring it back up the field with great play by Roisin, Ashling & Holly. With around 6 around the goal including Tara & Mira, but it was Eimear again to the rescue when she rattled another goal into the back of the net. A sigh of relief but not for long, Fresh legs with Emma & Imelda & Cliona coming in to take some of the pressure. But Colums were getting their second wind and were determined to put up a great fight and went onto to score another quick goal & point. Now the pressure was on, a super point by Roisin gave us the lead but Colums came and back and levelled the game with seconds to go. 2-2- to 2-2. our hearts were pounding, as we figured out what to do next. It was decided extra time was the only thing for it. With words of encouragement from the trainers that would make Paul O'Connell proud, the girls went out with all guns blazing. No score in the first half but With a free awarded to Barryroe in the second half, Jessica stepped up to take it. We were almost afraid to look, but it sailed over the bar and it with a mighty cheer from the sideline it was great to see the girls get stronger and going for every ball. Colums were defiant and came so close to score themselves but with Claire Dullea Lauren, Ali, Ava & ClaireT. kept it out. A second free and again it was Jessica that pointed it and gave us a glimmer of hope. The final whistle couldn't come fast enough. After another battle midfield and then the whistle went to give Barryroe the win. The girls really stepped up to the pressure today and showed their skills and determination. over a cup of tea afterwards, we found out who we would meet in the final. Ballinscarthy won the other semi final, so we play them in the final. If its anything like today's game, we will be for another cracker of a game.
