Sunday 31 May 2015Intermediate Hurling - Back door Game

Brinny, 15:30PM

It felt more like November than the end of May in Brinny on Sunday, as a bitter wind blew across the ground. The diagonal wind helped Ballincollig somewhat in the first half and the Mid Cork side quickly scored four points. Gearoid Whelton, who had some early success at full forward, had two Barryroe points. Ballincollig stretched the lead to 8 pts to 2, before Damian O'Kiely had a point from wing back. Two further Ballincollig points left them 10pts to 3 at the break.

Two Kieran Griffin points cancelled out a pair for Ballincollig early in the second half, and when John O'Donovan notched a point, the gap was down to 12 points to 6, and while points from Kieran Griffin, Dave O'Sullivan and John O'Donovan, brought the gap down to 5pts, two late Ballincollig efforts saw a final score of 16 to 9 for the Mid Cork team.

I was reminded that we were missing seven players from the team that defeated St. Catherines last season, so it was expected that we would struggle this season. We have one more chance to remain in the championship. If we lose that, we are then into a relegation battle.

Gearoid is well policed, after his two early points.

Eamon seems to have the pitch to himself.

Ruck ball.

Tadgh sweeps up.

Who has the ball.
