Barryroe 1-11  Gabriel Rangers 1-05

Barryroe welcomed visitors Gabriel Rangers on Tuesday night in their second football league game of the season and at the end of the hour had claimed the spoils against a depleted Gabriel’s side on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-05. In truth, Barryroe were in control for much of the game, but with a strong wind blowing down the pitch it made scoring difficult for both sides. Early points from Jack Cahalane, John Whelton, Mark Crowley and Johhny O’Donovan gave Barryroe the lead. With good defensive work by Pa Moloney, Ger O’Leary and Steven Madden, Barryroe created a number of chances in the soft underfoot conditions, but found the scores hard to come by, whilst Gabriel’s were threanting on the counter-attack. At half-time Barryroe led by 0-6 to 0-2.

Early points from Jack Murphy and Jack Cahalane saw Barryroe stretch their lead into the breeze in the second-half, as Gabriel’s were unable to take a number of chances that they had, with the wind and rain making scoring even more difficult. With the score at 0-9 to 0-4, a great goal by Daniel O’Driscoll ensured Barryroe finished the stronger side, further points from David O’Sullivan and Jack Cahalane, before a late goal from Gabriel Rangers saw the game close out on a final scoreline of 1-11 to 1-5. Barryroe will take on St.James next week.
