Saturday 15 Jun 2013Junior A Hurling - League

Barryroe, 15:00PM

Barryroe  just about overcame a gallant Gabrial's side in an entertaining Junior Hurling League game on Saturday night.  We started with quiet a number of young players and had a dream start when Mark Donovan's  long range effort found the net. Michael O'Driscoll added a point, but the Western side then had three points in a row. Conor Madden stopped the rot with a point and Jack Murphy opened his account with a fine free.

The visitors added two more point, John Whelton replied , Mark Donovan had a great point from the wing and a further point aside left us leading 1-6 to 0-7 at the break.

Jack Murphy had two early frees in the second half and Daniel O'Driscoll chipped in with a point, before two points from Gabrial's left us 1-9 to 0-9 ahead.

A Jack Murphy free on the 15 minute mark was answered immediately before the visitors equalized with a goal. Keeper Ger Keohane did well to save the initial effort, but could do nothing about the rebound. Level pegging now, but another Jack Murphy point put us back in front. We moved further ahead when Ryan O'Leary scored a fine point and Daniel O'Driscoll completed our scoring with a final point. Gabrial's came back with a point with two minutes on the clock and we had to endure a nervous time before taking the referee blew up.

Kevin McCarthy  had a decent return to hurling and Kevin O'Driscoll showed flashes of class, while Ger Keohane was solid in goal. Jason Cotter added a bit of steel to  a young backline and Michael O'Driscoll also showed up well.
