Barryroe 3-3           Newcestown     4-11

Barryroe lost out to Newcestown in U14 hurling league by 4.11  to  3.03. The score line doesn’t do this game justice as Barryroe domination long periods but had a lot of wides. Barryroe started well with the half back line of Aaron Knowles, Michael Whelton and Killian Whelton to the fore, Barryroe opened the scoring with a goal from full forward Jerome McCarthy following good work by hard working Nicko Bakker and James O Dwyer. Newcestown came into the game with 4 points until a long ball by the impressive Eoghan Sheehy to Jerome who bagged his second goal of the game. Sam Mullins got our third goal with a crafty pull into the corner of the net. The last 10 minutes of the 1st half was dominated by Newcestown scoring 2 goals and a point to leave the score 2.5 to 3 goals to the away side. Our defence restricted a rampant Newcestown during this time with good defending by Ronan Fleming, Anthony Fleming, and Cathal Dullea and some smart saves by Cathal Sheehy.

Newcestown came out strong in the 2nd half scoring another 2 goals and 6 points in the 3 quarter however Barryroe finished the game strong with three good points from Michael Whelton, Eoghan Sheehy and Brian O Donovan. Barryroe could have got closer but missed some chances late on. Forwards Stephen Holland and Liam Fleming also had impressive outings. Our subs Dylan Murphy Ryan O Donovan and David Walsh also helped Barryroe dominate the final quarter of the game. A good performance by all which we hope to build on in our next game v St Patricks.

Final score Barryroe 3.3 to Newcestown 4.11.
