Ibane Gaels 1-02 Tadgh MacCarthaigh 4-08

What a week for Ibane U14 girls. It was non stop, go-go-go. Boosted from our win at the weekend, the week started with a trip west to Aughaville to play T. MacCarthaigh on Thursday night. On a very cold but dry evening, they proved too strong for our girls. Our backs – Isobel, Naomi & Rachel & goalie Chloe were kept busy from the moment the game started. We had a few chances with Eva getting the ball up to forwards of Megan, Caoimhe & Aoife, but their backs proved too strong and kept us from scoring. Megan converted a free to a point and got us off the mark. They went on to score 3 goals in the first half despite our best efforts. Sinead, Chloe and Shona had some good runs but unfortunately we were unable to convert.  Finished 3-6 – 0-1 at half time.

The second half started with a few of our players unable to continue due to injury – Megan, Naomi  & Caoimhe were all sidelined with various aches. Our subs- Sarah & Nadia were on in the second half but we had to play the second half 14 against 15. In the past we are known to get stronger as the game goes on, but the fact we were down a player, we were up against it. Not that it effected the girls efforts, Claire, Ciara & Hannah & Holly all played well and got the ball up to Rebecca & Aoife but it was Rebecca who got a chance and scored a goal. This gave the girls a boost and with some good running from Sarah Murphy another chance and Nadia scored a point. We kept them to a scoring a minimum in the second half when they scored a goal & 2 points which proves that Ibane girls are all heart and never gave up. It was a hard fought game to the end. Final score 4-08 to 1-02.

This was to be the first of 3 games Ibane were to fulfil this weekend, so it was a case of pack up the car head for home and rest the bones until we play Castletownbere on Sunday at home in Timoleague.
