Barryroe 3-00 Ballinscarthy 2-00

YOU WIN SOME AND YOU LOSE SOME.

The U12 girls’ league commenced with their first game against Ballinscarthy on Sunday afternoon in Barryroe. As both teams are always very evenly matched, it was all go from the start. While dark clouds were looming, the sun tried to keep the rain at bay.

Great play by our forwards ensured Barryroe got the first score of the game with a great goal from Holly Collins when it just sneaked in under the crossbar. Our midfielders Claire Dullea & Ashling were kept busy and had some great play between them and together kept the pressure on. We had some great defending as well with Imelda & Ali in the back line helping our goalie Tara who had some great saves. Ballinscarthy are always a tough team to score against, but we were lucky to secure another goal before half time with a great pass in from Ellen to Mira who got it over the line. She was helped in the forwards by Charlene & Nicole. The pressure from the puck out was then on Ava, Claire Tobin and Esther to keep Ballinscarthy from getting it up to their forwards before the break.

After half time the rain started and boy did it rain, but not only rain, thunder and lightening as well, so much so that the game had to stop for 10 minutes while the worst passed over. Then it was back onto the pitch and full steam ahead. Mira found the back of the net again with a great goal. While we were strong in the first half, it was all Ballinscarthy in the second half when they really put the pressure on our girls. Ballincarthy scored two goals in quick succession and it was down to the pure determination of all the girls that they did not get another goal to level the game   Our subs Emma, Ellie & Madelin all came on and played well in the forwards. The game finished in sunshine, it just shows, you can never predict the weather in Barryroe. Final score 3-0 -2-0 to Barryroe.

Next game Tuesday night in Riverstick.
