Saturday 23rd July saw the Barryroe U11 Camogie team take part in the Valley Rovers U11 Blitz in Brinny.

First up was St. Vincent’s and after a slow start saw a goal conceded in the first minute. Barryroe recovered with Holly Collins picking up lots of ball in midfield and Alison McCarthy a rock in the defence. Points by Holly Collins and Tara Fleming followed by a poacher’s goal by Cliona O’Brien put us 2 points up at half time. In the second half, Holly Collins got another point from a free and a goal and a point from Ellen O’Riordan gave us a 2-4 to 1-0 win.

Next up was a match against the home team. Very little between the two teams in the first half with Madeline McCarthy having a titanic struggle with the Valley Rovers full back and Ellie Fleming Hand clearing all ball that came her way. The key moment came just before half time when Ciardha McCarthy pounced to score a goal from an almost impossible angle having made a great run from midfield. Second half saw Barryroe on top, but missing several chances, before Tara Fleming goaled to leave the final score 2-0 to 0-0.

Our final game was against Enniskeane. A good start saw a powerful strike by Emma Collins giving us the perfect start. Cliona O’Brien got her 2nd goal of the day while the ever industrious Madeline McCarthy got her reward with a goal from a fine solo effort. Two more goals from Ellen O’Riordan and another pointed free by Holly Collins left the final score 5-1 to 0-0.

All in all, with a cumulative score of 9-5 and only conceding 1-0, a highly successful event. Congratulations to all the panel for a great mornings work - Holly Collins, Emma Collins, Tara Fleming, Cliona O’Brien, Ellie Fleming Hand, Alison McCarthy, Ciardha McCarthy, Ellen O’Riordan, Lucy O’Flynn, Madeline McCarthy, Nicole Sweetnam, Mia O’Driscoll and Aoibhinn McKeogh.  

Next up for underage camogie is the Paula O’Leary Memorial Blitz, which is to be held in Barryroe pitch on Saturday 30th July starting at 10:00am.
