It was our turn to travel to Kealkil this week to take them on in the U14B West Cork Final. As always both teams were very evenly matched which made for a very exciting game. Scores were hard to come by and it was Jessica who got the first score of the game by getting a great point. Our forwards, Saphira, Ashling & Eimear were trying hard to score, but the defence team were strong and determined to keep the ball out. Colums scored 2 points from frees and a goal which dropped into the back of the net. Chloe scored a point from a 45 to keep us tipping over. All to play for in the second half.
The second half was very exciting as we traded scores, first Roisin got a cracker of a goal from way out, then Colums went onto score another goal and a few points. Super play by Eva, Chloe, Ciara & Jessica got the ball up to Saphira who passed it off to Ashling who found the back of the net with another goal. Great defending by Naomi , Aine, Sarah (recently returned from injury), Lauren, Claire Tobin & Claire Dullea and our goalie Holly kept them from scoring anymore goals but they did manage a few points to keep the margin very tight. Our subs Alison & Ava McCarthy came on and did really well. Some great determination from our forwards saw Eimear score a goal and this was followed by and a point from Jessica and another goal from Roisin. This was to be the final score of the game.
A super game to finish the season. It was also Saphiras last game with us as she returns to Switzerland in the next few weeks. We all wish her, Roman & Noah the best of luck and look forward to seeing them again. We did mention to Roman that he could get a team going in Switzerland and we could go play them next year in a friendly!
