Barryroe Junior Camogie team travelled to Glen Rovers on Friday night last for their fourth league game of the season. Anxious to make amends for heavy defeats in their two previous matches and determined to go one better than last year’s encounter with the Glen, Barryroe got off to a good start with Emma Collins showing great form up front and Róisín Ní Bhuachalla displaying good accuracy with her free taking. The backs held well against a physically strong Glen side, and although they conceded an early goal they rallied round and supported each other with some impressive passages of play supplying plenty of well-placed ball into the forwards where Hannah Whelton secured 1-01 in quick succession showing great strength and determination in the process. With Sarah Harte working hard at midfield ably assisted by Grace Tobin and Emma Deasy, Ellen O’Riordan started to find her form and knocked over four points with a fantastic display of skill and ease. At half time Barryroe were leading comfortably on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-04. As expected, a hard-hitting Glen side emerged in the second half, but Barryroe were not willing to surrender their battle. Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla was well in charge between the posts. Méabh O’Sullivan, Kate Whelton and Tara Fleming worked tirelessly out field and well taken points from Róisín Ní Bhuachalla and Marie Dineen, as well as a peach of a goal from Ellen O’Riordan meant the Glen were never going to seriously threaten on the night. The addition of Aoibhinn McKeogh was welcome as the intensity was beginning to take its toll. Mia O’Driscoll and Caoimhe Doyle also played their part, demonstrating the importance of a full panel of players as Barryroe continue in their quest for further success. Final score: Barryroe 2-15, Glen 2-05.
