Junior Camogie Record Fine Win

Barryroe recorded a very impressive victory over Castlemartyr at home on Sunday evening in their fifth and final group league match. Unfortunately, Castlemartyr could only muster 13 players to travel. Barryroe on the other hand had an impressive panel of players hungry for a place on the starting 15. However, thanks to the impressive accumulation of points by Barryroe, (15 in the 1st half and another 10 in the 2nd half), the coaches were afforded the rare but wonderful opportunity of emptying their sub bench. Full credit must go the Castlemartyr goalie who bought off some excellent saves when challenged with low ball by the Barryroe forwards. Her puck outs were equally impressive and to be fair to her teammates they never relinquished the battle. However, Barryroe were enjoying their moment in the sun, and demonstrated excellent displays of teamwork, intelligent and accurate passing and powerful point taking. Their half back line of Méabh O’Sullivan, Tara Fleming and Kate Whelton again proved their worth as the powerhouse of the team. They were well supported by the solid dynamism of Meadhbh Sexton and Sinéad Walsh in the full back line. Up front Rebecca McCarthy and Marie Dineen were working hard both using their strength to drive over some fine taken points. Ellen O’Riordan was again in flying form bringing her total tally to 8 points from play. As energy levels began to wane Aoibhinn McKeogh was once more on hand to take up the reigns, firing over 4 points with graceful ease. Barryroe’s goal was scored late into the 2nd half by substitute Jessica McCarthy, still showing her precision in front of goal. Of note in this free flowing and skillful game of camogie, Barryroe had no scoring opportunities from frees with all 26 scores coming from play.
