Easter Fundraiser by The Lawton Family

25 February, 2024

This Easter we're asking you to put on your trainers, walking shoes, hiking boots or swimming togs to support two incredible causes.

Brú Columbanus and Marymount Hospice in Cork offer extraordinary services to those who need it most - Marymount provides specialist palliative care of the highest quality for those with a life-limiting illness, Brú Columbanus provides home from-home accommodation for the relatives of seriously ill patients in Cork Hospitals. Both organizations provide incredible care and support when needed most.

From Friday 29th March - Monday 1st April (Good Friday through to Easter Monday), we're inviting you to run, jog, walk, hike, cycle or swim for Brú Columbanus and Marymount. Choose your distance goal of either 5km or 10km. For those swimming - a quick dip will suffice!

All we ask is that you take part, get active and embrace the moment. We suggest a nominal €20 'entry fee', with all funds raised equally going to Brú Columbanus and the Marymount West Cork Palliative Care service in Bantry Hospital (the monies raised will be split and transferred to both organizations by iDonate). You can donate by clicking here

Even if you cannot take part, for whatever reason, yet you would still like to donate, all amounts are welcome.

No matter where you are in the world - we want you to get involved. For our last event in 2022, people took part in West Cork, all over Ireland and various parts of the world including Barcelona, Brussels, Kraków, London, Los Angeles, Marbella, Marrakesh, Prague, Toronto, Seattle, Sydney, Washington D.C., France, Abu Dhabi, Turkey, and New Zealand....we hope to an impressive global presence again in 2024.

Why are we doing this?

We lost our younger brother Killian to cancer on 28 July 2021. He was 24.

Killian was an incredible person. Extraordinary in the truest sense of the word - smart, kind, creative, well-read, charismatic. A beautiful person in a million different ways. Always forward.

When we think of Killian before his cancer diagnosis, we think of his vibrancy and energy. Luckily for us, and despite all the challenges (of which there were many), he held onto this until the very end. He spent over 3 weeks in Marymount Hospice. No words will ever capture the care administered in this unique hospice. Whilst he was in Marymount, we were lucky to have accommodation nearby in Brú Columbanus. It proved to be a home away from home during his final days and meant we could spend as much time as possible with him in the hospice.

The organizers of this event, like many others, have seen first-hand the amazing, loving care offered in Brú Columbanus and Marymount Hospice - we have been inspired to organize this fundraiser in honour of Alice Crowley, who passed away in 2018, Michael Clancy in 2020 and Killian Lawton in 2021. We also remember other friends and close family members like Clíona Thuillier (2016), David Saunders (2023) and Finbarr Griffin (2023).

Many thanks for your support,

The Lawton Family
