Ibane Gaels 1-19 Killeagh/Itas 2-06

Last Saturday was a historic day for the Argideen Rangers / Barryroe combination when Ibane Gaels captured their first county title in hurling.

These young hurlers gave a highly impressive display in defeating Killeagh / Itas in the U15 Premier 2 decider at Ballinlough by 1-19 to 2-06.

The quality of hurling from both sides was of the highest standard with some excellent scores from play. Ibane started with a flurry of points from the hugely influential Ryan O'Donovan and Adam McSweeney before Killeagh scored a fine goal to keep in touch. Christopher Walton added a point before half-time for Ibane who finished 0-13 to 1-02 ahead at the interval.

The East Cork boys came storming into the game at the start of the second half and reduced the lead to four points. Florence Wycherley in the Ibane goal made two great saves at crucial times and good work by Jack Lawton and Fergal Walsh in defence helped to keep the East Cork team at bay.

Led by outstanding captain Con Dineen, the West Cork lads regained control of the game and a point from Lorcan O'Leary followed by a goal from Adam McSweeney ensured a victory in their first time playing at this level.

After the final whistle sounded there were unbridled scences of joy among the large Ibane support as the cup was presented to inspiring team captain Con Dineen. In his acceptance speech he thanked the parents, the supporters, his team mates and especially the management team consisting of Padraig Collins, John McSweeney, Denis O'Leary, John Dineen, John Walsh and William Sheehy.
