Ibane Gaels 3-10 Newcestown 1-07

Ibane Gaels advanced to the next round of the West Cork Under 14 A football championship at Ahiohill on Thursday night last when they defeated Newcestown 3-10 to 1-7 after a hard fought contest. Ibane had the advantage of the elements in the opening half and were slow to settle but once they did they were well on top in most sectors.  At half time the sides were level 1-4 each and Ibane had serious questions to answer in the second half. In truth Ibane had the major share of possession in the opening half but failed to translate that onto the scoreboard.

In the second half they upped the anti and quickly got into their stride again and this time they finished their attacking movements with scores. Goals from Olan and Cian together with points from Aidan Walsh and Olan kept Ibane on the front foot. The back line kept a tight hold on the dangerous Newcestown forwards and with Cian O'Sullivan in top form at midfield the forwards got an ample supply of ball. Adam Crawford played a captain's part and was a constant menace to the Newcestown rearguard. Olan O'Donovan was dangerous in possession and used his natural football ability to score and assist his other team-mates in the Ibane forward line. Ibane finished strongly and translated their greater possession into scores something that was not happening in the opening half. The backs tightened up and with Sean Ryan, Luke Mc Carthy and Cormac Mc Carthy in commanding form, Newcestown found it difficult to register the scores to bring them back into contention. Three late points by Ibane put the icing on the cake.

They now play the winners of the Clonakilty v Sam Maguires game in the semi-final.
