Tuesday 11 Dec 2018U18 Camogie - West Cork Final

Clonakilty, 19:30PM

Barryroe 1-06 Clonakilty 0-05

Having previously met Clonakilty twice this year and despite winning comfortably on both occasions, we were not going to underestimate our rivals in this local derby.

It took a while for our girls to settle with Clon getting the opening score. Ciara O’Sullivan replied with a fantastic point. After a mighty puck out from our Goalie Therese McCarthy, Ciara Collins who was doing trojan work in midfield moved the ball into the forward line. Maeve Whelton and Sarah Harrington fought hard to win possession but it was Chloe Collins who sent a great ball between the posts. Our girls were absolutely fighting for possession but scores were hard to come by. Clon pointed from a free to make the half time score, two points each.

After a team discussion with Pat Tobin, the girls came out more determined. If the first half was even, the second half was even better. Clon pointed from a free but Jessica McCarthy replied with a super point. Clon pointed twice. Our backline made up of Naomi Murphy, Roisin Dullea and Clodagh Moloney were solid and were putting in strong performances. Roisin McCarthy was called from the bench and scored a super point. Our girls were trailblazing now and fighting for everything and then we had the game changing score with an Orla Deasy spectacular goal. Clon were trying to come back but Eva Scallan Dowd, Andrea Tobin and Aideen O’Riordan in the half back line were providing fantastic cover. Megan Murphy was called up to create some scoring chances and Grace Tobin found good possession and on the run split the posts. Ciara O’S closed the game to raise another white flag to secure a victory. We came out the right side of a hard fought local derby and it was nice to close the curtain on the camogie season with a win.

The Cup was presented by James Tobin on behalf of the Carbery Camogie Board to our Captain Clodagh Moloney.

Many thanks to Ger and Mags in Grange Tavern for providing some well-earned refreshment after the match.
