2023

The Club AGM took place on Monday night the 18th December in Butlerstown Community Centre. The Chairperson, Eoin McCarthy, welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance.

The minutes of the 2022 AGM were taken as read and this was followed by the Secretary’s report for 2023. Richard Murphy, our Secretary, was complimented by the Chairperson on presenting such a detailed report. The Secretary report comprehensively reviewed all playing action for the 2023 season and much discussion revolved around the 2023 Junior football championship. "2023 has been an exceptional year for the club and in years to come, we will look back with fond memories. Everyone at club level has played their part in this success and we thank all for their efforts. As a club, we cannot rest on our laurels and must now look forward and challenge ourselves to scall new heights both on and off the pitch in 2024 and beyond.

The Secretary Report also covered the ground maintenance and development over 2023. Special mention and praise was reserved for our scheme workers, Kenneth Santry and Ali Al-Rubaye, along with volunteers who regularly maintain the wash facilities. 2023 saw further Grounds Development with replacement of the two Ball Stop netting to the main pitch and the extenion of the ball wall. It is hoped that resurfacing of walkway sections and remedial works to the gym building will be completed early in the coming year. The club reserved a special thanks to local councillor, John O'Sullivan for his advice and guidance on grant applications throughout the year and to the Development committee headed up by John Fleming. We wish John O'Sullivan the best in his retirement from public service.

The PRO Report was briefly reviewed by John O'Leary where the main item of note was the performance [reach] of the website and social media channels over the 2023 season. It was again noted a Club Archive is available with the ability to view thousands of Barryroe GAA records is available to all through a link on the Club website.

This was followed by the treasurer’s report which was presented by our treasurer, Michael Coleman. The report outlined the financial situation of the club for the year ending 31st October 2023. The decline of club lotto sales during the Covid 19 pandemic is still to be recovered, although sales have maintained 2022 numbers. Michael encouraged all supporters of the Club to regularly purchase tickets. Michaels thanked all who contributed to a very successful  racenight which was held in the Grange Tavern in November. Coupled with the generosity of our sponsors, this fundraiser provided a much needed boost to the club finanaces. The Rebel Bounty draw has now evolved as a key source of alternative club funding during the calendar year. Similar to the race night, 2023 saw record sales and Michael thanked all club members for their subscriptions. The increased sales resulted in 3 winners of €250 during the year. We hope our luck will improve further in 2024. The draw for the 5 x €100 also took place and the lucky winners were Norman Fleming, Arthur Tobin, Kieran & Gillian O'Sullivan, Vincent O'Donovan and John O'Regan Snr. Butlerstown.

The final item on the financial agenda was the setting of membership fees for 2024 and they were confirmed as follows;

  • Full member [playing] €100
  • Full member [playing, student] €50
  • Full member [non-playing] €50
  • Social member €40
  • Youth member €40

It was reconfirmed that the ability to renew membership is available on-line and all previous players should be encouraged to continue to support the club.

The Chairperson then said a few words and thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their efforts during the year. The Chairperson also thanked the various teams and their mentors for their efforts. He expressed the hope that our current crop of players at adult level will continue on the upward curve. Away from the playing fields Eoin remarked on the passing of many of our loyal supporters during 2023.

One of the final acts of the night was the election of officers whereby all outgoing officers were returned uncontested.
